Lentil curry, No oil

Lentil curry in India is called dal. In Kerala, its called parippu. It's preparation is a piece of cake :-) We combined the parippu with quinoa and oven roasted papad. And no oil was added in any of these dishes. Pic of parippu was taken and edited by my daughter.

The elements...

Moong dal - 1/2 cup
Water - 2 and 1/2 cups
Salt - 1/4 tsp

For the masala,
Coconut, grated - 1/2 cup
Chili powder - 1/4 tsp
Turmeric powder - a bit
Cumin seeds - a tad

The mechanism...

Grind masala ingredients into a smooth paste. Keep aside.

Lightly fry the dal. Cool.

Wash dal well. In a saucepan, add water, dal and salt. Bring it to a boil.

After about 10 minutes on medium flame, the dal will be cooked thoroughly and mashed.

Fling the masala into the dal. Stir to mix. Bring to boil and turn off the heat. Indulge in the steamy lentil soup.
