Ladies finger Kichadi

 Ladies finger is called vendakka in Malayalam. This kichadi is a yogurt and coconut based dish. It is usually one of the items served on the banana leaf during Onam and Vishu.
 
 
 
 



 

The elements of Mom's wonderful dish...

Ladies finger - 3 or 4

Rice bran oil - 2 tsp

Salt - a sprinkle

Coconut, grated - 1/4 cup

Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp

Curry leaf - a few

Water - 1/4 cup

Curd - 1/4 cup





The procedure...

Wash the ladies finger and pat dry with a clean towel. Trim its ends and chop into small, round pieces.

Heat a pan and dribble a tsp of oil. Shallow fry the ladies finger with a sprinkle of salt. Set aside.

Grind coconut and 1/4 tsp of mustard seeds. 

Heat a pan and drizzle the rest of the oil. Throw in mustard seeds and when it bursts, put in curry leaves. Put in the coconut melange and water. Bring to a boil. Turn off heat.

Whisk curd. Cast in whisked curd and fried ladies finger into the pan. Give it a good stir. Relish with rice.
