Sambar

This is a typical South Indian dish. It is a broth made with pulses, tamarind and vegetables. The pulses ingredient is pigeon pea, also called toor dal.

Sambar is usually eaten with rice and with light South Indian dishes such as idli, a steamed dumpling, or dosa, a sort of large rolled pancake. It is often accompanied by coconut chutney.

Sambar is not as complicated to make as it looks!
